Panel Recap: China, IL @ NYCC 2012

Saturday was day two for some of us, day three for one of us, the final day for a couple of us, and a day full of goodness for all of us. A long day of panels ahead, starting with some Brad Neely and company.
The day kicked off with the China, IL panel. A great panel with great prospects from the get-go: Hannibal Buress was on the panel! You probably know him from The Eric Andre Show, and perhaps as well from his stand-up. This was our first tidbit of news from this panel: Hannibal is joining China, IL for its second season as star athlete at The Worst School in America, Matt Attack. Matt’s a cool guy, doing cool things, trying to be cool, and he wears a college letter jacket– which is the one thing Hannibal says he would’ve changed about the character because he would never be caught dead in it. Brad Neely said this was similar to something Hulk Hogan (who is returning for season two) said about the Dean’s outfit: he’d never wear it.
We were also shown some other new characters from the upcoming season, including Brad Neely’s rendition of God:
And new student Wendeloquence:
The China news didn’t exactly end at new characters, though. There was also something bigger: China, IL is being blown up to 22 minutes instead of the standard 11 for season 2. Half-hours! It’ll be expanding, and that’ll give the show a hell of a lot more room to do what it wants, according to Dan Weidenfeld, who was also on the panel.
Fans of the show will also probably be really happy to know that Ronald Reagan will return next season for more villainy. Oh, and Brad Neely fans, we established at the panel that Brad doesn’t really want to hear Wizard People questions anymore. So let it be, for his sake!
There’s no date yet for the new episodes, but you should start getting ready now anyway for a new semester at China, IL.
Thanks to Bleeding Cool for the Matt Attack image. I didn’t get my camera out in time for that one.
Like everything else, we should have some more China-related goodies soon. Stay tuned.
