Panel Recap: Superjail! @ NYCC 2012

You may have noticed Superjail! show creator Christy Karacas mentioned something about liking us here at Adult Swim Central a bit recently. Hopefully Christy knows the feeling is mutual– we like him and his show a hell of a lot. It’s pretty brilliant. Thanks for the love and the show, Christy, we’d like to give you whatever love we can back.

Saturday continued after the China, IL panel with a panel for another Titmouse-produced show, the second panel of three for the day.

Superjail! is right in the midst of its third season on Adult Swim, and so far, it’s a pretty great batch of episodes. But, since it is in the middle of a new season, there wasn’t a lot of news to be taken out of this panel, which is a shame, but it’s fine: the panel was fun, the questions were decent. David Wain showed a lot of interest in the show’s creation, while also enjoying some chocolate chip cookies and an orange a panel attendee wanted from him. We also were treated to a new episode of the show that hasn’t aired just yet!

In the seventh episode of 10 for season 3, Jared and Alice walk in on a kitchen in ruins, with blood and body parts strewn about, and automatically assume the kitchen staff have met a grim fate. So the inmates can still be fed, Alice, a novice cook, takes up food duties and immediately is overwhelmed by the amount of ingredients she finds and has no idea how to work with (this is depicted in a great scene where Alice looks around mouth agape in confusion as names of spices swirl around her head). She grabs a cookbook, gets to work on the Warden’s midnight snack, and ends up making food so good that the Warden decides to find any excuse he can to have a banquet at the prison, settling on giving an inmate the best last meal ever at an upcoming yearly electric chair maintenance test. The usual cooking staff comes back to find what’s happened and they’re not too pleased, so they try to sabotage the whole thing. The talking vegetable garden returns. The Warden gets high on mushrooms that are forced upon him, at one point, too. So it’s a wild episode.

But then again, what Superjail! episodes aren’t wild?

Superjail! is currently airing new episodes Sundays at 12:15. They’re about three episodes in with the fourth coming this Sunday, the episode we saw will air in a few more weeks.

Watch Sunday’s episode on Adult Swim at a quarter after midnight, and stay tuned to Adult Swim Central for some extra Superjail! interview-flavored goodies.
