Panel Recap: Titmouse @ NYCC 2012

Chirp.

After the Venture Bros panel and press time on Friday night, animation studio Titmouse had their panel. It wasn’t entirely Adult Swim-focused, but that was obviously expected from a studio working on around a million different shows on television right now. The studio, with bases in LA and New York City, is responsible for a ton of Adult Swim shows both past and present. Superjail!, The Venture Bros, Black Dynamite, China IL, and Metalocalypse are amongst the mass of television shows they put together here in New York and out there in Los Angeles. Check out their 2011 film reel for a better grasp on what they do:

At the Titmouse panel, primarily, we got to see sizzle reels for the studio (the one above), and for shows they’re currently airing and working on (Motorcity, Randy Cunningham 9th Grade Ninja, both Disney XD titles) as well as music videos and bits they did for other shows. We also got to see three minutes of Jon Schnepp’s upcoming Kickstarter-funded project, Grimm Fairy Tales, which stars James Urbaniak and Chris Hardwick according to the opening credits.

The Titmouse crew discussed a handful of things that were brought up via Q&A, including a few Superjail! and Metalocalypse related things, especially when speaking about things they can and cannot do. Some tidbits: the studio can’t kill babies in their shows. S&P also took issue with a sequence from Superjail! that included Jesus jumping off of the cross to hop down, attack and nail another man to a cross before melting. The part they weren’t allowed to include? Jesus jumping off of the cross. Rest of it was fine. In Metalocalypse, the network’s standards people wouldn’t allow them to have a woman get beheaded while she was tied up, but it was fine otherwise for them to do. Besides those bits, the network is actually pretty liberating when it comes to stuff they can’t do, which is nice to hear.

We also heard a story about the network’s work with Mark Hamill, especially from Jon Schnepp, when someone asked what it was like to work with him (to which Jon responded, “oh you’re asking what it’s like to work with fucking Luke Skywalker?”). They were supposedly asked not to ask about Star Wars, which was disappointing, but eventually Mark opened up and began to tell stories of things that happened with George Lucas. According to the Titmouse crew, he’s a good guy to work with.

The panel ended with a giveaway of free Titmouse stuff, including Randy Cunningham posters, crayons, Motorcity headbands, and awesome Titmouse company coloring books. A sample page we love a ton:

Remember to watch the studio’s Adult Swim shows, including Superjail!, with new episodes every Sunday at 12:15.

This isn’t all the Titmouse related stuff we have for you from this year’s NYCC. We’ll have a video interview with Chris Prynoski and a bit more fun stuff from Titmouse coming soon, so keep an eye on this spot. A big thanks to Titmouse for everything this weekend, and we hope you all enjoyed the Munchkins as much as we enjoyed giving ‘em to you.
