The first panel for a show that hasn’t aired yet was this one. The Heart, She Holler hasn’t aired on Adult Swim yet, though promos have been making appearances for a while.
The show is an upcoming 6-part miniseries starring Patton Oswalt and Kristen Schaal. The panel included those two, along with Heather Lawless, Leo Fitzpatrick, Joe Sikora, executive producer from PFFR John Lee, and executive producer Alyson Levy.
The panel started with a bit of a surprise as David Cross walked up to the moderator’s podium to do just that, moderate the panel. Before introducing any of the cast or anyone on the panel, we were shown the entire first episode of the show. An audience member who asked a question later on described the show as “Twin Peaks-ey”. It takes place in the south in a place named the same thing as the show itself. The owner of The Heart She Holler had just recently died, leaving behind a video will that the pastor feared may have killed him. In the will, he leaves the Holler to his secret son whom no one had heard of or seen before. After birth, he was hidden in a cave, never to see the light of day– until now. The son (Patton Oswalt) is taken out of the cave and shown a series of videos left behind by his father to teach him about the world and get him ready to run the place. But the now dead owner’s actual motive was to replace his brain with his son’s so he may continue to rule the Holler. This is thwarted, and the son goes on to try to rule the land himself, despite learning nothing from his father’s videos but “hot dog” and a racist Japanese stereotype. The old owner’s daughter (Kristen Schaal) plots against the new ruler of the Holler, trying to get the land for herself.
David Cross opened the panel with a question to the cast: “so, The Heart She Holler… why?” to which John Lee responded, “we thought it was time.”
The show premieres on Adult Swim November 6th at 12:30AM.
Oh, and in a bit of unrelated news, Kristen Schaal plugged Bob’s Burgers. New season in March.
