Today, the International Animated Film Society, or ASIFA-Hollywood, announced their list of nominations for the 40th annual edition of the Annie Awards. If you’re unfamiliar with the Annies, they are awards meant to recognize accomplishments in animation in the past year. ASIFA-Hollywood has been running the event since 1972.

This year, some Adult Swim & Cartoon Network love is to be had. The biggest nomination: the Moral Orel half-hour special, Beforel Orel – Trust, is nominated twice. Dino Stamatopoulos’ creation is nominated for Best Animated Special Production, and Starburns Inc character animator Sihanouk Marinona is nominated in the  Character Animation in an Animated Television/Broadcast Production category.

On the Cartoon Network side, Adventure Time, and The Amazing World of Gumball, as well as MAD, Dragons: Riders of Berk, Secret Mountain Fort Awesome, and some others were nominated for Annies.

Adventure Time’s episode “Princess Cookie” is nominated in the Best Animated Television Production for Children category, up against the Gumball episode “The Job”, an episode of Dragons, and the LEGO Star Wars special Cartoon Network aired in September. E. Simmonds is nominated for Adventure Time’s “The Hard Easy” in the category of Production Design in an Animated Television/Broadcast Production. Cole Sanchez and Rebecca Sugar are nominated for the show’s episode “Lady & Peebles” in the Storyboarding in an Animated Television/Broadcast Production category, up against Tom Herpich and Skyler Page’s AT episode “Goliad”.

Mic Graves gets a Directing nomination for the Amazing World of Gumball episode “The Job”.

In the Best General Audience Animated Television Production category, CN’s MAD (for episode “FrankenWinnie/ParaMorgan”) is up against Robot Chicken’s DC Comics Special, Bob’s Burgers episode “Earsy Rider”, Archer episode “Space Race, Part 1″, and Titmouse’s Motorcity for their episode “Blond Thunder”. Archer is also nominated the Voice Acting category for Jessica Walter’s Mallory Archer in episode “Lo Scandolo”.

There’s a lot to root for in this year’s Annie Awards. The ceremony will take place February 2nd at UCLA’s Royce Hall in Los Angeles, CA.
