This operation started in 2002 as Aqua Teen Central — a web design class final that refused to die — and grew into Adult Swim Central and a whole family of sister sites. Since then it’s lived a few lives: six years as the Adult Swim bureau inside Agents of Geek, a podcast network that grew into its own brand (the Art Comedy Pop-Culture Network), a Twitch channel born mid-pandemic, and an entertainment-news desk covering movies, TV, gaming, comics, collectibles, and conventions. This year the two halves merged under one roof: ASC covers the network we’re named for, ACPN covers everything orbiting it.
Twenty-four years of history. One roof. And the roof needs more people under it.
The honest part, first
These are unpaid contributor positions. We’re a fan-built outlet, not a content farm — nobody here is getting rich, including the guy writing this. What we can offer is real: a byline on a 24-year-old outlet with an audience that actually reads, screeners and press access as your beat grows, editing that makes your work better instead of just faster, and a crew that cares about this stuff as much as you do. If that trade sounds fair, keep reading.
What we’re looking for
🎥 Video Creator
You’ve seen the wave of nostalgia videos out there — “remember this show?” retrospectives, deep dives, video essays. We’d love to be making our own. Made by actual humans who love this stuff, not an AI voice sputtering errors over a Space Ghost clip (eww). What we don’t have is the bandwidth to crank them out — and that’s where you come in. Maybe you’re already making these for yourself or another outlet. Maybe you’ve been meaning to start and need a banner to do it under. Either way: come inquire.
📺 Adult Swim Beat Writer
Our bread and butter — the beat that brought us to the dance in the first place. News, premieres, renewals, the weekly rhythm of the network we’re named after — plus everything the talent gets up to outside the building: comedy specials, live table reads, tours, side projects. If it involves the people who make this stuff, it’s the beat.
🎬 Film & TV Writer
Reviews and news beyond the [as] bubble — theatrical releases, streaming, the shows everyone’s arguing about. Festival coverage if you’re near one. Screeners happen on this beat.
🎮 Pop-Culture Beat — Gaming, Comics & Collectibles
New releases, pull lists, and the figures currently judging you from your shelf. If you can write about a Mego with the seriousness it deserves and the humor it requires, we want to read that.
🎪 Events & Conventions Correspondent
Cons, screenings, premieres, live shows — wherever this stuff happens in person. The big ones are our regular circuit (NYCC, DragonCon), but the smaller local cons matter just as much: that’s where the best stories hide and the shortest press lines are. You go, you shoot, you write it up while the wristband’s still on.
🎙️ Already run a podcast?
ACPN’s podcast network is adding established shows to its lineup for next season — that recruitment runs separately from the writing and video crew. The application lives over here: Join ACPN’s Podcast Network.
Interviews and features float across every beat — if you land a good conversation, it runs, whatever desk you sit at.
What we ask
Two writing or video samples with your application — published or unpublished, we just need to hear your voice. One to two pieces a month, minimum; life happens and we get it, but the site has a pulse to keep. Comfort with feedback — everything gets an edit pass, including the editor’s own stuff. And once you’re in, our style guide keeps us all sounding like one outlet instead of twelve.
How this works
Fill out the form below. A human — specifically John, the editor — reads every single application and responds to every single one. Give us a week or two. If it’s a fit, you’ll get a small first assignment with a real deadline, a feedback pass, and a spot in the crew channel. That’s it. No hazing, no unpaid “trial month,” no ghosting.
The fine print, minus the fine: Adult Swim Central + Art Comedy Pop-Culture Network are an independent, fan-built outlet. We are not Adult Swim, Williams Street, or Warner Bros. Discovery, and nobody here can get you a job at the network — joining this crew means joining the longest-running fan operation covering it, which is a different (and in our biased opinion, more fun) thing entirely. “Adult Swim” and all related marks belong to their owners. The enthusiasm is ours.
Questions before you apply? Drop us a line through the contact page and a human gets back to you.
