Adult Swim has released the first trailer for The Terrors of Jordan Mendoza, the live-action sketch series ordered last summer. The network calls it a first look. We’ve had our eye on this one since the announcement a year and a day ago.
The premise is simple and the execution is anything but: Mendoza plays a very scared man navigating a barrage of absurd, terrifying, and often hilarious dreamscapes. Sketch comedy built on surreal horror — personal fears, universal fears, and whatever lives in between.
Mendoza created the series and stars in it, arriving with a writers’-room résumé that includes Big Mouth, Ziwe, and Beavis and Butt-Head. The quarter-hour episodes come from Avalon, the production company behind Taskmaster and Last Week Tonight. And the guest list already announced for season one is a flex: Steve Buscemi, Marc Maron, and Wanda Sykes among them.
The only date attached so far is “coming soon.” But the calendar offers a hint worth watching: New York Comic Con hits in October, Adult Swim has a long habit of using that stage for premieres and first looks, and a surreal-horror sketch show debuting into spooky season practically schedules itself. That’s our read, not an announcement — we’ll have the real date the moment it exists.
