Adult Swim has ordered The Terrors of Jordan Mendoza, a live-action quarter-hour series created by and starring comedian Jordan Mendoza. The premise: a very scared man navigates a barrage of absurd, terrifying, and hilarious dreamscapes — sketch comedy diving into the subconscious, where the fears get both deeply personal and strikingly universal.
Avalon produces (Last Week Tonight, Taskmaster, Catastrophe), with Mendoza starring, directing, and executive producing alongside Aaron Brown, David Martin, and Jonathan Stern. The series airs on Adult Swim in the U.S.; Avalon distributes globally.
“Jordan’s voice is fresh, fearless, and completely original. This series is a wild, funny, and sometimes unsettling ride through the mind of a brilliant creator — and exactly the kind of boundary-pushing comedy our audience expects.” — Cameron Tang, VP of Development, Adult Swim
If the name rings a bell, it should. The Boston-born Mendoza is a supervising producer on Hulu’s Chad Powers, wrote and produced on Overcompensating, and stars in Netflix’s Neon. His writing credits run through FX’s Dave (with an episode that earned year-end praise from The New York Times and Rolling Stone), Big Mouth, Ziwe, Beavis and Butt-Head, and Human Resources. Just For Laughs named him a New Face; Vulture and Time Out have flagged him as one of New York’s rising comedic voices.
No premiere window yet — but a sketch show built on surreal horror is about as Adult Swim as a premise gets, and this one has our attention.
