On the heels of the Upfronts a few weeks back, Deadline has reported that the pilot for “Team Unicorn” will be going into production. While there was no word of it this year, it had been announced at last year’s presentation. Here’s what zetacoes (and yours truly) had to say about it:
Team Unicorn is a send up of Saturday morning cartoons, starring four heroines, and some dark twists on old 80′s cartoon tropes. Live action and animation hybrid, quarter hour. – zetacoes
Clare Grant (a.k.a.: Mrs. Seth Green) and friends get their own TV show based on Saturday Morning Cartoons. Could be great… just hope Clare doesn’t have the same taste in repetitive fart, crap, and nutshot jokes like her husband does. – Some Random Dude
We hadn’t heard much more about the pilot since then, until Deadline’s report today:
Production is underway on the Team Unicorn Saturday Action Fun Hour! pilot for Adult Swim. Penned by Dan Milano (Greg The Bunny) and inspired by the Team Unicorn cartoons, the pilot is described as a modern twist on Saturday morning-style cartoon/live-action hybrid shows, but for adults. It follows the adventures of the four mythical heroines who masquerade as human girls. Danger Maiden Prods’ Clare Grant and Rileah Vanderbilt executive produce and star alongside original Team Unicorn member Milynn Sarley (How I Met Your Mother) and Alison Haislip (Attack Of The Show) as both Team Unicorn and their cartoon counterparts.
The pilot (which seems as though it will consist of both animation and live action) also includes “Hollywood Game Night” host, Jane Lynch, voice acting goddess, Tara Strong, and host of the second season of “Newsreaders,” Alan Tudyk. We’ll have more info about the pilot when it becomes available.
