Who saw this coming? I mean, besides most people.
Deadline is reporting this morning that Adult Swim has officially acquired off-network cable rights to Fox’s acclaimed and Emmy-nominated Bob’s Burgers. The show will start airing this summer on the network hand-in-hand with King of the Hill, Family Guy, American Dad, and the canceled Cleveland Show to expand this weird ever-growing combo of Fox Animation Domination shows that kick off the Adult Swim block. Deadline says the network is paying around the same price for Bob as they did for Cleveland ($500,000 per episode).
If, for some bizarre reason, despite the fact that we do cover it here on Adult Swim Central, you haven’t watched Bob’s Burgers yet, let me give you a little incentive to watch the show that The Onion’s AV Club called “TV’s most enjoyable show.” Bob’s Burgers is created, written, and executive produced by Loren Bouchard (creator of classic Adult Swim shows like Home Movies and Lucy, Daughter of The Devil, as well as the classic Comedy Central show Dr. Katz: Professional Therapist) and Jim Dauterive. It follows the Belcher family, owners and employees of Bob’s Burgers, a burger restaurant. Bob (H. Jon Benjamin), his wife Linda (John Roberts), and their three kids Tina (Dan Mintz), Gene (Eugene Mirman), and Louise (Kristen Schaal) run the place and try to keep their business afloat while they tackle such everyday issues like having your children charge other children to spy on a nude beach that just opened up in town, battling a lobster festival, trying to stop a giant mechanical shark from destroying the town and their business, talking toilets voiced by Jon Hamm, and boy bands. The characters have even crossed over to the popular FX show Archer to open up that show’s 4th season.
Bob’s Burgers is currently in its third season on Fox in their Sunday night Animation Domination block. You can catch new episodes of the show Sundays at 8:30 after The Simpsons on Fox.
