Usually this kind of thing is left until the Toonami team feels it’s right. Usually it’s a surprise, but TV Guide spoiled the Toonami team’s fun this time. Whoops!
Samurai 7 will take its leave from the block after next week’s Episode 26 (the finale) premiere, and the following week, February 16th, Soul Eater will be taking over the slot.
Confirmed by the Toonami dudes on Tumblr.
A bit of a big name for the still-young new Toonami block. Licensed by FUNimation in the US and based on the manga of the same name which began in 2003, Atsushi Okubo’s 2008 shonen action/adventure/comedy/supernatural anime spans 51 episodes. In the Death Weapon Meister Academy, there are three teams of human weapons (the weaponry is comprised of humans that turn into handheld weapons– a scythe, two handguns, and one that can turn into a handful of different sharp weapons) and their human meisters. Each meister is trying their best to turn their weapon into a Death Scythe, also known as the absolute highest rank a weapon can attain so they can be used by the Shinigami. To do so, they must collect the souls of 99 evil humans– and one witch. A variety of villains attack the Academy and the three main teams, and the teams work together to become stronger as a whole and individually.
The show won’t exactly be making its American TV premiere, as it’s aired in full on the FUNimation Channel. But, this will be its debut on a network that’s more widely accessible than FUNimation!
And it’s worth checking out. Simple shonen stuff. But pretty fun shonen stuff, too.
Check out Soul Eater on Toonami starting February 16th at 1:30AM.
And check out the end of Samurai 7 next Saturday at the same time.
Only Toonami, only Adult Swim.
