Saturday rolled on, and 6:30 came around. We got up, made our asses stop hurting, and sat back down for the Delocated! panel.
We just saw Patton Oswalt for the The Heart, She Holler panel so it was a surprise to see him come back out to moderate this panel. A nice surprise. He introduced the Delocated! panel which included Jon Glaser (who plays “Jon” as is also the creator of the show,) Steve Cirbus (who plays Sergei Mirminsky,) and Jacob Kogan (who plays “Jon”‘s son “David”.) New cast members included Janeane Garofalo (who plays Susan, Head of the Network,) Yung-I Chang (who will be playing the leader of the new Chinese crime family,) and Ali Farahnakian (“Jon”‘s new bodyguard, T.B.)
The Chinese mafia is new to the show, and is hired by “Jon” in the new season to fight off the Mirminsky family. Jon Glaser will be playing a second character in the upcoming season 3 which was close to wrapping when the panel was going on. They had some bits left to film.
We were shown a clip from an upcoming episode where “Jon” figures out he has no friends, which depresses him and drives him to do a reality show-esque hunt for a new friend. He promises about $10,000 to the winner and a group of potential new friends show to try to win “Jon”‘s affection. But after choosing a winner, “Jon” realizes that they’re all there only for the money and tells them all to leave. Trust me, it’s much funnier than it sounds.
One of the friend contestants in the clip was revealed to be Jon Glaser’s father, who Jon explained the character “Jon” is loosely based off of. The noises he makes and the way he speaks sometimes all comes from Jon’s father, who Janeane Garofalo and Steve Cirbus both claim to have been dating for around 6 or 7 years.
The panel promised that Todd Barry would return for the upcoming season, and that he would be beaten up in it.
Ali Farahnakian spent most of the panel speaking about his plan for the city of Detroit: to install adjustable basketball hoops, or “dunk goals” as he called them, on every street corner so residents could dunk basketballs and feel better about themselves. When asked about the possibility of trampolines so people who cannot dunk can still try their hand at it and feel good about themselves, he said that he was taking any and all suggestions as it was still a plan that is in its early stages.
With this plan, the city of Detroit’s name is to be changed to Dunktown USA.

- I think the most awkward thing was the fact that besides myself and Calvin of Jailbot.com, only two other people were in the room asking questions to the cast…
- …which consisted of everyone mentioned above… I was inches away from Janeane Garafalo. :O
- Jon Glaser said that the Seasons 1 & 2 DVD set will include Outtakes, Deleted Scenes, as well as the “Demo Reel” which they showed at last year’s NYCC (essentially the scene with Paul Rudd getting shot.)
- Janeane said that Delocated was “alot like ’24.”
- I asked Jon if we’ll be seeing any new “Jon” personas (I.e.: Dennis Farina) this season. He said “probably not.”
- The Production is a 2 Camera Shoot.
- Jon mentioned that there will be a new “Miami Vice-style” opening for the show.
- Janeane asked her agent to get her onto Delocated.
- As they all took turns saying how they hooked up with the show (most of them auditioned) Jon mentioned that he auditioned for himself as well. He “wanted to do what’s right for the show” and auditioned 5 times.
- Ali (who plays “Jon’s” new bodyguard… Sidenote: Hopefully they explain what happens to Rob, as Mather Zickel has moved on to ABC’s Man Up.) was exceptionally funny. It was interesting to learn that Ali is the owner of the PIT Improv Theater in NYC. He mentioned that he and Jon Glaser have been friends for more than 20 years.
- Jon confirmed that episodes are still 30 minutes long.
- 4 episodes were shot this past Spring, while 6 more will be shot soon.
