Bomb scare in Boston linked to ATHF

Well, this was a rather interesting day…. here’s basically what happened:

About a few weeks ago, these “Throwies” as they’re called were put up in random places in popular cities around the U.S. What were they? Images of Ignignokt and Err all lit up in a Lite Brite-type fashion to promote the upcoming movie. Most people became aware of them via our myspace right here. The viral campaign was created by a company known as Interference Inc., a New York-based company which [adult swim] hired for this campaign. Anyways, some Harvard scholar out in Boston found one of them under a bridge this afternoon… only it was mistaken as a bomb. The Boston authorities then dispatched a bomb squad to the scene. To make a long story short (too late,) Boston is mad at Turner because of their mistake and they want action. The news was all on top of the debacle as well…. the most hilarious quote coming Shepard Smith @ Fox News while he read an article on the Mooninites via Urban Dictionary:

“Their god…. is an Indian… that turns into a wolf.”

Even Fox’s resident “crotchety old man” Bill O’Reilly threw in his own 2 cents by dismissing it as a “stupid cartoon” and then proclaimed that both Ted Turner and “The cartoon character” should be arrested. Of course the former resigned from the company last summer.

I’d have the say, the only person thusfar who has been a straight-shooter is Keith Olbermann at MSNBC who mentioned that you would have to be an idiot not to realize that this:

…isn’t a bomb.

The mayor and governor of Boston don’t believe that this is funny in any way. But in the opinion of this “reporter,” the whole world’s laughing at you, Boston. I can’t wait to see what the “taped” programs (I.e.: The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Leno, Letterman, Conan, etc.) have to say on the matter tomorrow.

The press may think that the promotion failed…. all things considered, I think this being given mainstream press is more of a promotion than anything. Expect ATHF:MFFT to open WORLDWIDE!

…eh, maybe not. x_x

Update Update:

AustinSwim.org has uncovered the actual video of Interference Inc. placing the throwies around Boston, most notably near the Sullivan Square T station where authorities found it. Visibly shown in the video, as well as credited at the end is Peter “Zebbler” Berdovsky (one of the individuals arrested in connection to the promotion.) The video in question can be viewed right here.

Update agains:

Peter Berdovsky and Sean Stevens (the two individuals who were arrested last night) were released today on bail. Neither one has a previous criminal record. Also, they held a press conference this afternoon…. it was funny.

Even more update:
Well so far the taped shows have been a bust… even The Daily Show, which was actually rather boring. The saving grace of Comedy Central (as usual) was Stephen Colbert noting that the promotion would have done better if they put Frylock up instead. Then proceeded to show us some of his own now nixed promotions which included a giant bomb in NYC. I’ll keep an eye out for the last taped program that matters…. Conan, to see if he mentions anything. I imagine he will, he is from Boston after all.
In the meantime, I leave you with this new report from MSNBC.com: Even young Bostonians are laughing at themselves.

Well, Conan let me down. *sad* On the other hand, I decided to tune into Jimmy Kimmel to see if he’d have something to say. Not only did he mention it, but he included a skit about a Homeland Security Video: “How To Tell The Difference Between A Bomb And A Cartoon” apparently Bart Simpson is NOT a bomb.

Squee just dropped this one on me. The whole Boston thing was discussed on the Penn Jillette Radio Show yesterday. Funny stuff… makes me wish Penn wasn’t on terrestrial radio. x_x
