The 2nd Greatest Event in Television History is Coming

Do you remember The Greatest Event on Television History? We do. There isn’t a day that goes by that we don’t mourn Jon Hamm. Anyways, it was so great that [Adult Swim] is bringing it back.

Adam Scott told TV Guide this,

Literally every day since our first episode aired back in October, I have been inudated non stop, with people not asking for another one, I applaud everyone for their restraint, and as a thank-you we bring you episode 2.

So tune in on June 6th, to see Adam and ‘Parks and Rec’ co-star Amy Poehler recreate another opening to a 1980s TV show.

And keep your eyes opened because Adam said there’ll be at least two more of these released before the year is over.

John J. (@sentroid91) Gets Upfront About New Swim Programming

Yesterday, our esteemed editor zetacoes posted info regarding this year’s Upfront Presentation programming. For those not in the loop, the Upfronts are basically the yearly network presentations where all networks (and even internet streaming like Netflix, Hulu, etc. now) feature what will be coming soon and also what will be picked up this coming year and most of next.

Rather than blabber on with a crappy telephone-sounding mic connection on a live feed, I figured this year I would write out and analyze the Upfronts. Essentially giving my personal opinion on different shows announced:

Rick and Morty: The brainchild of “Community” creator, Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland. Originally it was titled “Doc and Marty” for Channel 101 in NY. It’s definitely got potential of being a hit show… especially considering it’s Dan Freaking Harmon. Who knows? Maybe we’ll hear guest voice spots from some of the “Community” crew. You have to expect Dino will have some hand in it.

Mr. Pickles: I don’t know much about the showrunners, Will and Dave… but apparently they’ve written/directed stuff for Funny or Die. It’s a “famly” oriented show, so I suspect it won’t be too different from The Oblongs or Neighbors from Hell.

Mike Tyson Mysteries: What’s the next logical step for a former boxer turned wack-job celebrity? If you guessed Celebrity Apprentice, you were wrong this time. A show about Iron Mike solving crimes? As someone on Twitter put it, this show may bring Swim back to its former glory. Then again I could be wrong. Wouldn’t be the first time.

King Star King: Definitely sounds like another Mongo Wrestling Alliance… which, I kinda liked but felt it fell short. Would explain why there was no second season. I’ve only seen bits on pieces of Monsters vs Aliens (which was directed by the creator of this show,) So I’m still hopeful.

Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell: Obviously by now, you know how I feel about this show. Dave Willis and Casper Kelly’s brand new live-action show about Hell. It’s airing right now (Thursdays @ midnight) and is a blast! P.S.: Check out our new Swimcast interview with Dave and Casper about the show.

Hot Package: This one was actually announced at last year’s Upfronts, but never surfaced (not that that’s a new thing, there’s plenty of stuff from last year that has yet to air… I’ll get to that later.) If you remember Derrick Beckles, he hosted the pilot “Totally 4 Teens” which aired during the Burger King pilot voting on AdultSwim.com. If the show’s anything like that, it should be pretty interesting… at least for the people who like Tim & Eric/Steve Brule/Eric Andre (P.S.: The show’s being produced by T&E’s Abso Lutely Studios.)

Metalocalypse – The Doomstar Requiem:  Brendon Small actually hinted at this late last year. The idea of a 1 hour Dethklok special sounds great… I just worry that this may be more of a wrap up similar to the way Delocated’s “The FRRT Identity” ended that series. Again, I hope I’m wrong.

Aaron McGruder Pilots: I can’t say too much about these (especially not knowing what either is about.) All I can say is, McGruder is a genius, and I’m sure these pilots will kick-ass. I just hope they see the light of day on Swim (online or otherwise.)

Tim & Eric’s Bedtime Stories: First and foremost, I’m sure the T&E/Live-Action haters will be hating all the live-long day about this. Sounds like it’s just a one-shot special (for now.) I love Halloween and I love Galifianakis… so it should be pretty good.

Ghostbags/Hole to Hole: I’m putting these two in the same spot mainly because I feel these are the two shows that are going to be the pilots we have a slim-to-none chance of seeing… unless of course BK wants to have another voting contest where the winner pilot airs on TV and NEVER GETS A SERIES. Poor Cheyenne Cinnamon. :(

Filthy Sexy Teen$: If I’m not mistaken, this was one of the numerous “fake” TV programs “Coming to Adult Swim” at the end of each ep of NTSF:SD:SUV::. But I mean it’s Paul Scheer, Curtis Gwinn (Fat Guy Stuck in Internet, NTSF,) and Jonathan Stern (Children’s Hospital) so I only expect the best out of this show. PLUS it’s a spinoff of a spinoff. Trippy.

Team Unicorn: Clare Grant (a.k.a.: Mrs. Seth Green) and friends get their own TV show based on Saturday Morning Cartoons. Could be great… just hope Clare doesn’t have the same taste in repetitive fart, crap, and nutshot jokes like her husband does.

Ubermansion: It’s already been proven with Titan Maximum, that a show co-created by Matt Senreich and NOT Seth Green kicks ass. One can only hope this show is no different. Also, Bryan Cranston producing? THE Bryan Cranston? I guess we’ll find out.

Untitled Cruise Ship Project: Matt Harrigan (Assy McGee, Space Ghost) created show already sounds awesome. But the “Untitled” party worries me, considering those are the shows that never see the light of day.

Shows Coming Back: Way too many I’m hopeful for… few I’m not. Let’s just say the ones I could care less about feature repetitive jokes, rappers running around hitting each other, and Cleveland from Family Guy.

Bob’s Burgers: It’s a fantastic show, great cast, excellent comedy. But I don’t always get the chance to watch it… now I do. THANKS ADULT SWIM!!!! I do however wonder what this means for the block. They obviously can’t double up on MacFarlane Domination anymore. Or… is Swim making a play to take over 8pm?

Hey, What Ever Happened To…?: I eluded to this earlier. Where are the shows mentioned on previous Upfronts? I think it’s safe to assume Tight Bros. will never see the light of day… unless they decide to pull a “That Crook’d Sipp/Freaknik” and retool it into a 1 hour special. I can name about 10 other shows that have been announced but have yet to air on either Swim TV or online. Will they? No idea… but when we know, you will.

So that’s pretty much my analysis. If I had to pick one break-out show out of these to come out of the Upfronts, I’d have to go with Mike Tyson Mysteries. Rick and Morty and Filthy Sexy Teen$ will also be good, considering who’s behind them. But of course, this is all opinion so I could very well be wrong. Regardless, keep it locked and loaded here to find out more about these show and much more!

The 2013 Adult Swim Upfront Slate (UPDATED)

It’s that time of year: the sun is shining, the weather is warm, the flowers and trees are blooming, and Adult Swim is announcing a new slate of shows that may or may not air. It’s upfront season, y’all.

Adult Swim’s upfront presentation is coming up on May 15th in New York City, with performance by Kanye West. But the juicy new show info is out now. There’s a bunch to go over, so let’s get to work.

First off, a note about the network: Adult Swim is coming off of an amazing year. Adult Swim had its most watched year ever in the 18-34, 18-24, and 18-49 age demographics. The network is growing up pretty well, into cable’s #1 network in those demos. Our little net is growing up.

This year, Adult Swim brings out a slate of new and returning shows and pilots and more. First up, let’s all run through…

NEW SERIES & SPECIALS

  • First, something we’ve told you about already, Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland’s Rick and Morty. A sort-of parody of the main characters of the classic Back To The Future series, the show is about a genius inventor and his less-genius grandson. The show will be a half hour.
  • Next, Mr. Pickles comes from Will Carsola and Dave Stewart. The Goodman family lives in an old-fashioned town overrun by modern society with their dog, Mr. Pickles, a deviant, satanic pet. Another quarter hour.
  • Mike Tyson Mysteries is exactly what it sounds like. Amazing. Boxing legend Mike Tyson stars as himself in a live action/animation hybrid with his trusty pidgeon sidekick. Mike, with his magic face tattoo and his pidgeon buddy work for anyoeh who needs help, and they work together to fight crime and solve mysteries, like defeating a super computer at chess and helping a werewolf author finish his novel. Quarter hour, probably going to be amazing.
  • King Star King is about a punk-rock he-man who falls from his realm to become a fry cook in some crappy waffle joint. He has to regain his memory so he can defeat his nemesis and save his love. From JJ Villard, it’s a quarter hour show.
  • Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell. You know what this is. It’s currently airing Thursdays at midnight. Check out our interview with Dave Willis and Casper Kelly for the show now.
  • There’s also Robot Chicken DC Comics Special II. You also know what this is. Coming in 2014!
  • Hot Package is a faux-entertainment show from Canada in the vein of Access Hollywood or Extra by Derrick Beckles of TV Carnage (Totally 4 Teens). Produced by Beckles and Abso Lutely. Live action quarter hour.
  • Update: There’s something important that we forgot. Coming this October is Metalocalypse: The Doom Star Requiem, an hour-long special. The special picks up after the finale of season 4. With Toki abducted and in mortal danger, his only hope is the rest of Dethklok. But, like always, the band’s egos start to get in the way. To save their band member and friend, they need to get over themselves, work together, and save Toki in the hour-long heavy metal rock opera (with an original score, of course!). Set your calendars for October.

Sounds good? Let’s keep it rolling with…

PILOTS

  • Boondocks creator Aaron McGruder has two pilots coming, both live action, one a half hour and the other a quarter.
  • Tim & Eric’s Bedtime Stories: Zach’s Haunted House is a new T&E show with the duo and Zach Galifianakis. The trio find out that their grandfather has left them $1000 in his will, but to get it, they must spend the rest of their lives in his haunted house. This’ll be a half-hour Halloween special.
  • Ghostbags by Hayes Davenport and Guy Endore-Kaiser is about a trio of frat guys who were douchebags in life, and weren’t much better in death. Quarter hour.
  • Hole to Hole by Pam Brady and Arden Myrin is a live action quarter hour about Ashleigh and Amanda Dangerhole, America’s sexiest detectives.
  • Filthy Sexy Teen$ is a show by Paul Scheer, Jonathan Stern, and Curtis Gwinn, following a group of teens and their principal in a school full of dark secrets as they try to climb the social ladder by any means necessary. Live action quarter hour.
  • Next, we have a couple of shows from the creators of Robot Chicken and Stoopid Buddy Stoodios. First, Team Unicorn is a send up of  Saturday morning cartoons, starring four heroines, and some dark twists on old 80′s cartoon tropes. Live action and animation hybrid, quarter hour.
  • From the same people, but also produced by Bryan Cranston, John Harvatine IV, Seth Green, and Eric Towner, created by Matt Senreich and Zeb Wells, comes Ubermansion. It’s about the mundane life of six superheroes living in one mansion.
  • Finally, from Matt Harrigan, is Untitled Cruise Ship Project. The employees of a cruise ship are steered into trouble by their insane Scandanavian captain.

Venture Bros Season 5 Shirt Club is Coming!

A new season of Venture Bros is upon us, and we are ever so ready. Season 5 will be released midnight, July 2nd, so keep your TVs and couches ready (Even if you had them ready before the delay…) However,  while we wait for the show to finally come back, we can relish in the fact that the Shirt Club is coming back with the brothers!

No question mark shirts were offered.

The Shirt Club was first introduced back in 2008, as a service by Astrobase Go that offered new Venture Bros shirts every week alongside a new episode, for a price of $22. It would have logos, characters, phrases, or other things related to the currently aired episodes. But after week 13, the club ended. But it seems fitting that with the introduction of Season 5, we get the reintroduction of the Shirt Club, so anyone who missed it in 2008 will get a chance to not miss it this time around.

Not much has been said about how the Shirt Club will work this time, or what will be on the shirts, but we can assume the shirt club will be very similar. Jackson Publick has been quoted saying:

“As for Shirt Club–that’s gonna happen. The designs are all done, they’re super-cool, and we’re working out the logistical details now.”

We can only hope more details will come along with the new season. So keep your eyes peeled, because if these shirts will be like the old ones, you’ll definitely want to grab one or twelve.

The Venture Bros Season 5 Special Screening at Nitehawk Cinema May 29th

Team Venture’s almost here.

The other day, we told you about the unfortunate news that the new season of The Venture Bros would be delayed from May 19th to June 2nd at midnight. It’s a longer wait, we know. We’re all really disappointed and sad, but hey, look at it this way: it’s still happening!

If you’re just totally impatient and can’t wait a few days longer for season 5, there’s an event you should try to get to. Nitehawk Cinema in Williamsburg, Brooklyn will be holding a special Venture Bros season 5 premiere screening 5 days before the air date, our very good friends at Venture Bros Blog reports. The screening will take place May 29th at the Brooklyn theater, and will include a screening of the 4th season finale, followed promptly with a screening of the brand new, never-before-seen-until-June-2nd season 5 premiere. Sorry, the hour-long season 5 premiere.

Everyone who attends will get a limited edition print, but the earlier you show up, the better chances you have of being entered into a giveaway of original animation cels from the past few seasons of the show.

Check out the Nitehawk website for details. At the time of writing this, unfortunately, it looks like the show’s all sold out. But you never know, maybe something will pop up. More tickets, a second screening, who knows? Badger friends with tickets to take you. Go.

Keep an eye on the Nitehawk page in case something comes up. And keep an eye on us in case it does. And keep an eye on Venture Bros Blog for all of your Venture Bros needs.

Go Team Venture! June 2nd at Midnight on you-know-where (Adult Swim).

Watch the Stoopid Buddy Couch Gag on The Simpsons Season Finale

Apparently there’s no hard feelings from Matt Groening towards Seth Green for being involved with rival show Family Guy because according to TV Guide, The Simpsons have approached Seth’s ‘Stoopid Buddy/Stoopid Monkey’ studio that works on Robot Chicken to design the finale’s couch gag. It appears that they’re going to do a stop-motion gag using the official Simpsons action figures. This isn’t the first time Robot Chicken’s touched The Simpsons as they did the briefBart’s Punishment clip in season 5 episode, Major League of Extraordinary Gentleman. It is however the first time they’ve collaborated with Groening. Anybody who’s interested in a behind the scenes look at what Stoopid Buddies studios went through to design the segment, check out the video on TV Guide’s site and then watch Sunday May 19th at 8 on Fox to see what actually happens.

BobsBurgers-2

Adult Swim Acquires Bob’s Burgers

Who saw this coming? I mean, besides most people.

Deadline is reporting this morning that Adult Swim has officially acquired off-network cable rights to Fox’s acclaimed and Emmy-nominated Bob’s Burgers. The show will start airing this summer on the network hand-in-hand with King of the Hill, Family Guy, American Dad, and the canceled Cleveland Show to expand this weird ever-growing combo of Fox Animation Domination shows that kick off the Adult Swim block. Deadline says the network is paying around the same price for Bob as they did for Cleveland ($500,000 per episode).

If, for some bizarre reason, despite the fact that we do cover it here on Adult Swim Central, you haven’t watched Bob’s Burgers yet, let me give you a little incentive to watch the show that The Onion’s AV Club called “TV’s most enjoyable show.” Bob’s Burgers is created, written, and executive produced by Loren Bouchard (creator of classic Adult Swim shows like Home Movies and Lucy, Daughter of The Devil, as well as the classic Comedy Central show Dr. Katz: Professional Therapist) and Jim Dauterive. It follows the Belcher family, owners and employees of Bob’s Burgers, a burger restaurant. Bob (H. Jon Benjamin), his wife Linda (John Roberts), and their three kids Tina (Dan Mintz), Gene (Eugene Mirman), and Louise (Kristen Schaal) run the place and try to keep their business afloat while they tackle such everyday issues like having your children charge other children to spy on a nude beach that just opened up in town, battling a lobster festival, trying to stop a giant mechanical shark from destroying the town and their business, talking toilets voiced by Jon Hamm, and boy bands. The characters have even crossed over to the popular FX show Archer to open up that show’s 4th season.

YouTube Preview Image

Bob’s Burgers is currently in its third season on Fox in their Sunday night Animation Domination block. You can catch new episodes of the show Sundays at 8:30 after The Simpsons on Fox.

You can catch Bob this summer on Adult Swim.

Hat tip one more time to Deadline for the news (and another little one to our friend Paradox295 for bring this to my attention).

Venture Brothers Season 5 Delayed

Bad news for everybody that was ready for Venture Brothers to come back, Adult Swim has announced via Facebook that the show has now been postponed and will premiere on Sunday, June 2 at midnight instead of on May 19th. But hey, it’s not like we’re not used to waiting, right?

However, if you do need something Venture related to fill the empty void left behind by this news, Poker Night 2′s there for you. It came out already on Xbox Live and comes out April 26th on Steam and April 30th on PS3. (Or May 1st for non-North American PS3 owners.) So, it’s just like a new Venture Brothers adventure. Kind of. An adventure where you get to mess around with Brock and play poker with him and buy him drinks. (I’ve heard you can buy everybody around the poker table some drinks. Somebody report back to me on how many drinks it takes to get Brock wasted. For science purposes. It’s like finding out how many licks it takes to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Roll pop.)

Hopefully there won’t be any further delays but if there are, we’ll let you know. Until then, expect to see new Venture Brothers on June 2nd at midnight.
