The first batch of Primetime Emmy Awards were given out tonight at the Nokia Theatre in LA Live with the Creative Arts Emmy Awards. A celebration of technical achievements in television including art direction, sound editing, cinematography, and more, it kicks off the week leading up to the main, major Emmy Awards ceremony.
A handful of shows that Adult Swim fans know and love were animated, including American Dad!, Bob’s Burgers (both in the same category and both beaten out by The Penguins of Madagascar, unfortunately), and Adventure Time, but only two made it out on top in their respective categories.
Adventure Time and Regular Show were both nominated in the Outstanding Short-format Animated Program category (Adventure Time for episode “Too Young”, and Regular Show for “Eggscellent”), but Regular Show came out on top.
In the Outstanding Special Class: Short-format Live-Action Entertainment Programs category, Childrens Hospital won the statue. Childrens is the only Williams Street show besides Robot Chicken to win an Emmy. Other AS shows have won, but primarily non-original programming– Family Guy and former Adult Swim tenant Futurama have both won their share. But now the brilliant Childrens Hospital and its awesome cast and crew has a statue to call its own.

Also of small note, in Juried Awards for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation, Cartoon Network’s now-defunct series Secret Mountain Fort Awesome had Background Designer Chris Tsirgiotis and Character Designer Robertryan Cory win individual awards.
Congratulations to them as well as everyone else from the Cartoon Network and Adult Swim camps who won tonight!
