With the ongoing media blitz of David Wain’s (Childrens’ Hospital, Superjail) new film Wanderlust, it only makes sense that Wain would discuss Childrens’ Hospital as well as his other endeavors. A little bit of info trickled out recently about Wain developing a new show called ”Newsreaders” for [adult swim]. It wasn’t until this week that he’d mentioned it was another spin-off of Childrens’ Hospital that it clicked in my head…

Newsreaders was the mockumentary-style show during seasons two and three hosted by “Louis La Fonda” (played by Delocated’s Mather Zickel.) I used my super-powerful investigative skills and found out that Rob Corddry talked about Newsreaders back in October with The Onion A.V. Club. Here’s a snippet of what he said:

“I might be breaking news here, but we just got Newsreaders picked up as a spinoff,” Corddry reveals. “Newsreaders is gonna be Adult Swim’s fake news show. And it’s gonna have nothing to do with Childrens, except it’s gonna hopefully star Mather [Zickel], and just be a fake news show.”

Should be interesting to see how this pans out. Mather Zickel now lives in L.A. (which is why his character was written off Delocated, which films in NYC,) after starring in the ABC series Man Up with Dan Fogler (Balls of Fury.) With ABC obviously putting the kibosh on that show, it would seem Zickel is primed to reprise his role for the new spin-off… of course, nothing’s official yet.
