In the past 10 years of [adult swim]‘s short life, I’ve been involved in a lot of network-related events. From live shows in NYC and Philly to conventions in San Diego and Atlanta, much fun has been had. The question (in my mind, at least) about some kind of [adult swim]-themed convention coming to fruition would come up every so often… a question that some fans in the Boston area have partially answered…

The Rusty Gear (a combination of Venture Bros. and Metalocalypse) has been in the works for quite awhile, and is set to take place in late June/early July this year in Natick, MA (just 30 minutes Southwest of Boston.) Now you might be asking yourself, “Why would I want to go to some rinky-dink fan convention in some random town when I can go to San Diego Comic-Con or Dragon*Con?” Well, let me give you a quick history lesson…

San Diego Comic-Con started in 1970 (then known as Golden State Comic-Con,) and was held for three days at the U.S. Grant Hotel with only 300 attendees. Today, SDCC hosts well over 100,000 attendees and not only holds most of the con in the San Diego Convention Center, but spills out into adjacent hotels and other areas outside of the main convention area.

Dragon*Con started in 1987, was held at the Piermont Plaza Hotel, and hosted 1200 attendees. Last year, the con branched out into it’s 5th hotel (the convention is held at now 5 hotels in Downtown Atlanta,) and hosted more than 40,000 attendees (and 3 [as]central-hosted panels. )
