Are you a kid? Do you have a kid? Do you like Adventure Time? Do you want to get your kid a meal and steal his toy like a heartless bastard? There are so many questions that can kick this off and if any of the answers for them are “yes,” then hoo boy, does McDonald’s have something for you. A little disappointing something, but still something.
The golden arches’ Happy Meals have a new popular cartoon to add to their list of multitudes of others throughout the years, the ever popular Cartoon Network show, Adventure Time. Your choice (not really, they’ll just put whichever one they have into your bag) of Finn, Jake, Finn, Jake, BMO, or Ice King.
It’s a little disappointing because of the range of characters– two Jakes, and two Finns? And it’s certainly disappointing that they didn’t include a single female character in the batch, despite Marceline, Princess Bubblegum, Flame Princess, and even Fionna and Lady Rainicorn being some of the most popular characters in the show (and in recent seasons, sometimes, even more spotlighted in the show than the titular Finn and Jake). As The AV Club points out, this is almost definitely because of the decades-old, sort of archaic, should-be-done-away-with-in-this-day-and-age way of doing Happy Meals at Mickey D’s: one for boys, one for girls. And instead of making the girls’ toys the group of popular female characters from the show, a commenter on the AV Club article points out that the girls’ toys are Paul Frank-inspired with a monkey on each one and pink hearts everywhere. So there’s something wrong here.
But, Adventure Time toys have certainly come to McDonald’s and despite the disappointing stuff it is a little cool to see the show get this treatment. If you want one, you can nab one for yourself or your child, whether your child be boy or girl, until February 6th!
