Back at the 2012 Adult Swim Upfront, we found out that along with the plethora of other cool pilots and series and that one Harold & Kumar thing, the network was working with Community creator Dan Harmon and his Channel 101 pal Justin Roiland on a pilot entitled Rick & Morty. We haven’t heard too much about the pilots that were announced back at the Upfront– until now.
Dan Harmon and Dino Stamatopoulos’ studio Starburns Industries reports on their Twitter account that Rick & Morty has been picked up for a series:

According to this article on Spanish-language website ConectaLaTV (and Justin Roiland himself on Facebook, according to a popular Channel 101 fan site), the show will air in fall 2013 and will have 10 half-hour episodes.

The show is based on old Channel 101 shorts Doc & Mharti, based on the characters of Doc Brown and Marty McFly from the classic Back To The Future film trilogy. Check out a short (NSFW, by the way):
Rick & Morty is about a genius inventor grandfather and his not-so-genius grandson.
If you don’t know Dan Harmon, he is the creator of popular-but-endlessly-in-limbo NBC comedy Community. Dan was thrown off of the show by NBC after the end of season 3, and season 4 of the show was supposed to have premiered on October 19th, but was delayed by the network with no new date for air. He is also one of the founders of Channel 101, an online television network and website as well as a monthly film festival in Los Angeles and New York City. He was also co-creator of television pilot Heat Vision and Jack, a pilot starring Jack Black and Owen Wilson that never made it to air but has found a fanbase online.
Justin Roiland is an actor, voice actor, writer, director and more who is also part of Channel 101. He has starred in Adventure Time as Princess Bubblegum’s temperamental creation Lemongrab and is currently in shows like Gravity Falls and Fish Hooks for Disney Channel.
