Today, this page showed up all over the place, and people who love them some video games kind of went nuts. With good reason, probably. Hopefully.
Video game developer and distributor Valve, the company famous for games like the Half-Life series, the Portal series, and its distribution, multiplayer, and networking platform Steam, is working with Adult Swim to bring Team Fortress 2 fans something. What it is, we’re not exactly sure yet, but there’s been rumors and conjecture.
For those unfamiliar, Team Fortress 2, first released in Valve’s 2007 compilation title, The Orange Box, is an online-only first person shooter, with cartoony character designs and classes, allowing players to sneak, shoot, blow up, and heal whoever they please while they try to complete an objective against a team trying to do the same. Game maps have their own basic game modes, from a capture the flag mode wherein players try to capture the other team’s intelligence briefcase to a control point capturing mode and a King of the Hill mode. The game went free-to-play on PC in summer 2011 and is available on PC as well as Xbox 360 and PS3 in the Orange Box compilation.
Game marketing has included, in the past, animated shorts all entitled “Meet The…” wherein a different game class is introduced as a character, and they talk about their job and their personalities.
This has helped the game gain a faithful fanbase, and this has also been the source of a lot of the conjecture about today’s announcement of the partnership with Adult Swim– some seem to think it could either be a full-fledged animated series or perhaps a new “Meet The…” short starring Pyro.
