The 12 Days of Christmas: Rebel Without a Claus
December 18th, 2012

Before I take my leave of the interwebs for a bit (Disney World, here I come!) I wanted to reflect on at least one of my favorite [adult swim] Christmas episodes:
At one point or another, it can be said that EVERY show eventually has its own Christmas Special (of course, during my Swimcast interview with the Superjail guys, we talked a bit about the possibility,) but otherwise thusfar every Swim series has had one… case in point, Squidbillies.
Now, anyone who knows me knows I’m big into ATHF… but with multiple Christmas episodes, it would be hard to choose one in particular. The easy way out for me would be to reflect upon Squidbillies episode “Rebel Without a Claus.” Where do I begin? In a nutshell, Early kidnaps and tortures Santa until his elves are able to bring him “the still-beating heart of Jeff Gordon.” Something that never materializes, but we do get the Squidbillies version of Gordon, in the form of “Cock Johnson,” played by co-creator Dave Willis.
The other thing I appreciate about this episode: the Williams Street cameos. First and foremost you get editor Ned Hastings as the Meteorologist/Santa Tracker. Later, when the head elf (voiced by Bobby Ellerbee, who also voices the Sherriff,) dispatches the “Silent Knights,” you get among other WS staffers, Editor Phil Samson as well as former Prod. Assist., Thom Foolery as the Baby Jesus. Both of which are later maimed as Granny lets loose a few bloodthirsty bulldogs.
I could go on forever about this episode, but I’d rather just post a clip below. Enjoy the rest of your holidays while I go ride the Hell out of Disney World. I’ll say hi to Doofy and Marty Mouse.
