When last we left the series, Season 11 wrapped up back in April 2021 with radio silence as to whether or not it would continue. At that point, the show was the longest-running Adult Swim series, until AS revived Aqua Teen Hunger Force in November 2023.

Today, however, brings word that the series will be making a return in the form a 20th anniversary type special set for July 20th at 11:30pm East (next day on HBO max/Max/HBO max…. maybe?)

EMMY® WINNING POP CULTURE PARODY SERIES TAKES ON REALITY TV WITH
“ROBOT CHICKEN: SELF-DISCOVERY SPECIAL,” PREMIERING JULY 20 ON ADULT SWIM

BURBANK (June 30, 2025) – Adult Swim’s long-running stop-motion comedy series returns with a brand-new special that takes aim at iconic reality shows and personalities from across Warner Bros. Discovery networks. “Robot Chicken: Self-Discovery Special premieres Sunday, July 20 at 11:30 p.m. ET/PT on Adult Swim, and will be available to stream the following day on Max.

From co-creators Seth Green and Matthew Senreich, the fan-favorite parody series delivers a half-hour of rapid-fire sketches that spotlight Discovery, Food Network, and TLC. In “Robot Chicken: Self-Discovery Special,” the ever-awkward Robot Chicken Nerd embarks on a journey of self-discovery the American way—by going on reality TV. Will he find a 90 Day Fiancé… or end up as Shark Week chum?

“For years we’ve been keen students of pop culture, and nothing is more pop than reality TV,” said Green and Senreich. “Now that Discovery Global Media is Robot Chicken’s corporate daddy, we knew it was time for meaningful and loving exploration.”

“‘Robot Chicken’ has always found new ways to surprise and entertain, and this special is no exception,” said Michael Ouweleen, president of Adult Swim. “By turning the lens on reality TV, the team delivers a sharp, hilarious take that feels both timely and completely unhinged—in the best way possible.”

NYCC Panel Recaps: Adult Swim https://adultswimcentral.com/2015/10/17/nycc-panel-recaps-adult-swim/ https://adultswimcentral.com/2015/10/17/nycc-panel-recaps-adult-swim/#respond Sat, 17 Oct 2015 05:34:00 +0000 https://adultswimcentral.com/?p=1353 Adult Swim’s presence at New York Comic Con was smaller than usual this year. Usually, we can expect a bunch of panels for upcoming and currently airing Swim shows across maybe two days. This year, we only got the panel block on Friday and not much else! It was too bad, since I do enjoy having multiple Swim things to do throughout the weekend, but what we got was still pretty fun.

The Venture Bros panel kicked off Friday’s Swim panel block with your standard Venture panel– not a ton of news, but a ton of fun. This show and these guys usually put on my favorite panel each year (you only need to look back at the 2012 panel, the “Let’s All Smoking” panel, to see why. That one was wonderful). There was a teaser trailer beforehand that gave everyone a taste of what’s to come in the new season– which will hopefully be online sometime soon– that showed more of the New York City that season 6 will take place in.

Season 6 is coming in February, by the way, which is soon! Even sooner than we expected, too, as it got bumped up to the end of January. It’ll have 8 episodes in total.

The panel itself wasn’t super news-intensive, but Doc did mention that the Triad won’t be making an appearance anytime soon, which is unfortunate news for everyone who loves that group (which should be everyone, really). The season’s going to be chock full of stuff, so much so that a lot had to be cut for time. So that just tells you how crazy it’ll be. There was talk of the art book that was supposed to happen a while back, and it’s still on its way, hopefully by SDCC or Springtime. The book was supposed to be just up to season 5, but they finished season 6 in the time before the book so everyone figured they may as well just include that too. The guys also got some free Fresca from a fan.

Doc also had a new haircut, and it looked great. Just so everyone knows: Doc Hammer’s hair has changed, but for the better. You can actually even check it out over here in our very own John J’s interview with Doc and Jackson!

Neon Joe, Werewolf Hunter came next in the panel block. This is a new 5-part miniseries coming to Adult Swim on December 7th at Midnight, and then for the following few nights. This is Swim’s second miniseries ever, the first being The Heart, She Holler— coincidentally, both shows have PFFR folks behind them.

NJWH stars a bunch of familiar faces for those who loved another PFFR production, Delocated!, including the star of that show, Jon Glaser. Jon plays Neon Joe, a man covered in neon and shrouded in mystery who specializes in killing werewolves. He arrives in Garrity, VT (aka, according to all the show information Adult Swim has given out, “B&B Town, USA”) where Steve Cirbus (Sergei on Delocated!) plays Sheriff Dalton who works with Joe to get rid of the werewolf problem, Steve Little plays the town janitor who idolizes Joe and tries to help as much as he could, Scott Adsit plays a tavern owner, and Stephanie March plays Mayor Carol Blanton, Garrity’s lesbian mayor.

We got to see some footage from the show, including a clip where Joe inspects werewolf pubes, which have teeth. There’s also a trailer, which you can check out here:

Those who attended the NJWH panel also got one of the NJWH comic books, which was an origin story before the show that was done by DC and is awesome. If it ever shows up online or is ever purchasable anywhere, I urge everyone to check it out. It adds a little something to the show and it looks great. Also, it’s written by Jon Glaser!

Robot Chicken was also there to round out the Adult Swim panel block. Besides talking of a new season, there was a lot of hype around their third DC Comics special coming up. The special has one heck of a guest lineup including Alfred MolinaNathan FillionWeird Al YankovicAlex BorsteinGiovanni RibisiJonathan BanksMae WhitmanHugh DavidsonDee Bradley BakerZeb WellsKevin ShinickAdam WestBurt Ward, and, of course, the usual cast of Seth GreenBreckin Meyer, and Matt Senreich. Check out the trailer for the upcoming special:

Adult Swim didn’t have a ton of time at NYCC this year, but they did have plenty of stuff to show off, and it all looks pretty exciting. New Venture Bros will never not be exciting, and Neon Joe looks hilarious. I’m even kind of into the Robot Chicken special! The horizon is bright on Swim.

Check out new Venture in January, Neon Joe on December 7th, and Robot Chicken DC Comics Special III: Friendship is Magic October 18th at midnight (and the new season starts October 25th, too!).

Keep an eye on Agents of Geek as we bring you other NYCC-related goodies as time goes on. We might have some more for you. And set your calendars for NYCC 2016, on October 6th-9th at the good ol’ Javits Center. Best weekend of the year.

[adult swim] central @ New York Comic Con 2014: Day Two https://adultswimcentral.com/2014/10/11/adult-swim-central-new-york-comic-con-2014-day-two/ https://adultswimcentral.com/2014/10/11/adult-swim-central-new-york-comic-con-2014-day-two/#respond Sat, 11 Oct 2014 04:10:00 +0000 https://adultswimcentral.com/?p=1964 Saturday and Sunday panels have a lot to top after the Adult Swim panel block and the Archer panel tore the damn house down on Friday.

Jack McBrayer and Triumph the Insult Comic Dog’s new sitcom was showed off. Rick & Morty had a panel that included some real not safe for work type jokes and Dan Harmon doing a spot-on Justin Roiland impression. Archer blew us away with a screening and some amazing chemistry from the cast. Robot Chicken was there too.

The Adult Swim block began with a panel for the upcoming Jack McBrayer and Triumph Show, which seemed to be the title. The traditional three-camera sitcom premieres January 29th and stars Jack as a former child star who was once on a show with a young puppy Triumph. After the show was canceled, the two split up and there was a bit of a downward spiral for the both of them, but now Jack lives with his mother and is a reformed, happy-go-lucky guy (kind of like the real-life McBrayer, who, from our seats, was small and obscured– we were sort of far back– but you could see that grin he wears constantly from miles and miles away). One day, Triumph tracks him down and begins corrupting adult Jack, who is happy enjoying his time at home doing his own thing, while Triumph is dead set on getting into showbiz however he can.

Alan Colmes of Fox News Channel’s Hannity and Colmes moderated the panel which starred McBrayer, Robert Smigel (who began the panel on his knees behind the panel table with the Triumph puppet, bashing-slash-good-naturedly-ribbing Fox News and Colmes, calling him “a very nice lizard person” at one point), and Blackwolf the Dragonmaster, New York’s unofficial wizard, who some might know from a classic Triumph segment from Conan O’Brien’s NBC show.

The show comes after a Conan bit from his current TBS show that starred the duo going to a Chicago hot dog stand and winding up in a war of words with the staff:

The panel discussed the show and its format a little: although it is a classic three-camera sitcom with a laugh track, they plan on including some man on the street bits, sort of like the ones that made Triumph famous, when they fit the context of the episode. We saw some quick clips, and one such instance was included where Triumph is hanging out with a paparazzi setting up to take a photo of disgraced ex-NBA owner Donald Sterling’s wife. We also saw some clips of guest stars that included ex-N*Sync member Joey Fatone, film critic Leonard Maltin, and Tay Zonday, the man who made the old internet favorite “Chocolate Rain” song and video. Al Sharpton also made an appearance in a segment where Triumph was on MSNBC, but I personally was unsure if he filmed for the show or if it was old footage reused for the bit.

If you live in New York City, by the way, keep an eye out if you want to attend a free (!) taping, because the show is taped in front of a live audience in the city right across from Madison Square Garden. They’ve done some tapings already, and when they did the tickets showed up on TheBlacklistUS.com, so perhaps watch there.

Next up, we got to the Rick & Morty panel, which was hilarious. Creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland sat on the panel with cast members Sarah Chalke and Chris Parnell and talked season 2 and much more.

Roiland and Harmon said that Rick & Morty merchandise is coming soon, hopefully and likely in 2015. Shirts might come first, but there’s stuff on the way– they couldn’t say exactly what, but they said it’s on its way. One thing they were able to discuss, though, was an upcoming comic book series from Oni Press coming up soon. A monthly Rick & Morty book is coming for you, and Roiland and Harmon had a lot of praise for the writers making it. They said that they’ve been looking at the storylines they’ve been coming up with while making season 2 of the show, and getting frustrated that they didn’t just do what the comic guys did. The stuff is that good.

We got some peeks and information about season 2. One clip we got to see, which was in animatic form, had the entire family sitting at the table for a meal, when Morty brings up that someone was found dead with two holes in their neck and their blood drained. Rick talks about how vampires are actually real, and that what happened is no surprise, and tells Summer that she can f-off when she asks him to help catch the offender. We also learned that the season will see an episode where Jerry and Beth go off-planet for couples counseling at Rick’s suggestion.

Two more things to look forward to in the season: more catchphrases for Rick (our second clip was a supercut of every one of these throughout the new season), and more Ball Fondlers.

The Robot Chicken panel concluded the Adult Swim block and had Seth GreenMatthew SenreichClare GrantBreckin Meyer, and Macaulay Culkin on the panel. They talked their holiday special, which will air December 7th, and has the fantastic title “Robot Chicken Lots of Holidays But Don’t Worry Christmas is Still in There Too So Pull The Stick Out of Your Ass Fox Ne

They also talked an upcoming DVD release of just Robot Chicken Christmas specials that includes 6 specials, deleted scenes, and commentary, coming out November 18th. [Source: IGN]

archer-cards-nycc
Those attending the Archer panel got these, a pack of special, con-exclusive Archer playing cards.

Finally, the entire day concluded with the big one, the Archer panel. The entire cast– H. Jon BenjaminAisha TylerLucky YatesJudy GreerChris ParnellJessica Walter, and Amber Nash– were on the panel, along with creator Adam Reed and producer Matt Thompson. We were treated to a special video message from Sterling Archer and Pam, as they held a yard/garage sale on a boat of all of their Archer Vice clothes and props as they prepared to go back to their regular old secret agent gigs.

Following that, we were then shown the season premiere of the upcoming season 6, coming in January, which was fantastic. If you didn’t like the Archer Vice season, like me (Adam, Matt, and a few others on the panel mentioned the hate for the season, playfully asking those in the room to stand so security could kick them out right away), you’ll most likely really enjoy the premiere. It’s a return to the old secret agent stuff, and it has some really good jokes and some touching moments and Mallory loses her mind a bit. Oh, and there’s a toaster named Milton.

Talking about guests this season, Reed mentioned that Barry will return, so that means the return of Dave WillisFargo‘s Allison Tolman will appear, as will Kumail Nanjiani. Togo Igawa guests in the premiere, and Coby Bell will reprise his role as Conway Stern. Oh, and Ron Cadillac will return.

The panel was great because the cast is fantastic, especially together. Benjamin and Tyler stole the show, with some help from Lucky Yates and Reed. It wasn’t the only one taken over by amazing chemistry between people: Rick & Morty‘s panel was full of great stuff from the cast and especially Roiland and Harmon. The entire panel did a quick improv scene that was hilarious, and Harmon did some impressions of Justin Roiland as well as Rick and Morty, and they were all totally spot-on.

We’re halfway finished with New York Comic Con 2014, unfortunately. But, of course, we’ll make the most of it. The biggest, busiest day is Saturday, and it’ll include a Cartoon Network Halloween screening, including a peek at the upcoming miniseries Over The Garden WallAnother Adult Swim panel block will bring us Black DynamiteThe Heart, She Hollerand Mike Tyson Mysteries. The Adult Swim boat party is tomorrow as well, so if you got your RSVP in for that, have fun (and tell us who the secret musical guest is!).

For those at the con, see you there. For those at home, check back for recaps and news and whatever else we can give you from New York Comic Con 2014.

NETFLIX ADDS MORE SWIM CONTENT TO ITS LIBRARY https://adultswimcentral.com/2014/04/15/netflix-adds-more-swim-content-to-its-library/ https://adultswimcentral.com/2014/04/15/netflix-adds-more-swim-content-to-its-library/#respond Tue, 15 Apr 2014 05:15:00 +0000 https://adultswimcentral.com/?p=2324 It’s been well over a year since Netflix and Turner partnered up to bring CN and Swim content to streaming media. Since then, many of us have been concerned that no further content would be made available, due to declining ratings. It was even brought up jokingly, in the most recent Swimcast episode… only the first seasons of certain Swim programs were available.

Recently, we learned that Netflix added Season 2s of at least three of Swim’s more popular shows. Here’s the full list of Adult Swim properties on Netflix.

  • Aqua Teen Hunger Force Season 1
  • Aqua Teen Hunger Force Season 2 (NEW)
  • Boondocks Season 1
  • Boondocks Season 2
  • Childrens Hospital Seasons 1 & 2
  • Delocated Season 1
  • Metalocalypse Season 1
  • Robot Chicken Season 1
  • Robot Chicken Season 2 (NEW)
  • Squidbillies Seasons 1 & 2
  • Venture Bros. Season 1
  • Venture Bros. Season 2 (NEW)

Don’t forget, on top of Swim programs, you can also find Fox’s programming (American Dad, Family Guy, Bob’s Burgers) as well as stuff that is clearly based on Swim (Archer, Tim and Eric stuff, etc.) It’s also interesting to note that if you search for certain titles (I looked up Eagleheart, Check it Out, and Frisky Dingo) some are also available on DVD as well (if you’re still into the whole mail-away DVD rental thing). One would hope if more of this content is watched, it could lead to even more Swim programs on Netflix. I suppose only time could tell.

This time with a super-jam-packed sixth season of their Emmy Award-Winning series on DVD and BluRay. As you’d expect, along with the usual pop-culture based comedy come massive amounts of special features that you’ve come to enjoy even more.

The Series

For those out of the loop (or living in a Tron-like world): Robot Chicken is the brainchild of Seth Green (Family Guy, Austin Powers) and Matthew Senreich (formerly of Wizard Entertainment). The duo started a web series called “Sweet J Presents.” The concept: a stop-motion sketch comedy show based on pop-culture from the 80′s and 90′s (when Seth and Matt grew up). Today, Robot Chicken graces [adult swim] screens everywhere, and even has specials based on popular movies and comic franchises such as Star Wars and DC Comics.

The DVD

The Full, Uncut, and Uncensored Sixth Season of [adult swim]‘s Emmy Award winning animated program comes on one big-assed BluRay with Special Features up the kazoo. A cavalcade of guest stars such as Sam Elliott, Stan Lee, Patrick Stewart, Olivia Wilde, Malin Ackerman, and many MANY others make this season just more spectacular. A multitude of skits in each episode, for instance how Pinky and the Brain truly spend their nights, Elroy Jetson finding a facehugger from Alien, even a grown up Dora the Explorer. While most of the skits aren’t terribly tasteful, the concepts are pretty humorous and fun to watch over and over. Super HiDef quality that you know [adult swim] delivers. In addition, this title comes with an Ultraviolet copy to throw onto your tablets and smartphone devices.

What RC set wouldn’t be complete without boatloads of special features. I’ll list some of them…

Featurettes:

From the development of Season 6, to a little Robert Kirkman info, even some “dirt” on Seth and Matt themselves. The featurettes section is endless, also un-informative… which makes for some crazy fun!

Deleted Animatics:

When I chatted with Matt Senreich at New York Comic Con this year, he’d mentioned that there are A LOT of skits that never made it past animatics. And he wasn’t kidding. Endless supplies of animatics are on this set (even more than the number of episodes in the season)! Then again, those who were lucky enough to make air had stuff cut as well…

Deleted Scenes:

Want to see more of the skits that made it to air? Here are some clippets that were taken out (either for time or lack of humor) from each episode.

Chicken Nuggets:

The Nuggets are back! If you saw RC:DC, you know that this is a pop-up style trivia add-on for episodes. Learn ins and outs, bits and bobs, so-ons and so-forths of each episode as you watch and listen.

So there you have it. A fitting BluRay Season Collection for an Emmy Award Winning Series. Not sure I could say any more than that.

Robot Chicken: DC Comics Special – BluRay REVIEW https://adultswimcentral.com/2013/07/01/robot-chicken-dc-comics-special-bluray-review/ https://adultswimcentral.com/2013/07/01/robot-chicken-dc-comics-special-bluray-review/#respond Mon, 01 Jul 2013 13:55:00 +0000 https://adultswimcentral.com/?p=603

With over 100 episodes, conquering 1980′s toys, cartoons, nostalgia, and even the Star Wars Universe, what would be Team Robot Chicken’s next target? Hint: DC Comics’ Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns writes and contributes for the show…

That’s right! Robot Chicken has teamed up with DC Comics to bring you “Robot Chicken: DC Comics Special!” This one-disc set on BluRay (and also DVD) is jam-packed with your favorite DC Comics superheroes and baddies like Superman, Lex Luthor, Batman, Bane, Green Lantern, Sinestro, and of course… Aquaman. You can also expect a star-studded voice cast as only Robot Chicken Co-Creator/Hollywood Darling Seth Green can deliver. Voices like Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother,) Megan Fox (Transformers,) Nathan Fillion (Castle, Firefly,) Alex Borstein (Family Guy,) Alfred Molina (Spider-Man 2,) Breckin Meyer (Garfield,) Paul Reubens (Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure,) and many more!

The main feature is the special itself, which is in typical Robot Chicken fashion: It’s the only stop-motion animated sketch comedy show out there of its kind (only this time, with some DC Comics fun thrown in.) The main focus on this one is Aquaman and his (lack of) super-abilities. From the starting gate, we get a quick sketch on how the rest of the Justice League treat old Aqua. It eventually leads to an all-out brawl between the JLA, the baddies (known as the Legion of Doom,) and some of your Robot Chicken favs like the Nerd, Humping Robot, and others. Mixed in-between are some short skits such as Superman figuring out that kissing people (like he did to Lois in the Superman 2 film,) makes them forget. Also included are some recurring segments such as “Real Characters of the DC Universe,” including some lesser-known DC chracters (that you probably haven’t heard of.) The whole show is wrapped up with a tight bow of a power ballad, as sung by Aerosmith front-man, Steven Tyler.

Since this disc is on BluRay, it suffices to say that the HD quality looks and sounds phenomenal (at least as far as stop-motion animation with DC Superheroes goes.) In addition, like Swim’s last BluRay release, Metalocalypse Season 4, also included is an UltraViolet digital copy. So not only can you enjoy the RC:DC special on a super-hi-def 50 to 60 inch screen, you can also take it on the go with your smartphone, tablet, or laptop of choice. Personally, I’d go with an iThingy.

The Special Features on the disc are spectacular. I’ll break them down individually…

  • The Making of the RC:DC SpecialIf this show looks easy to make, you’re dead wrong. You get to see the unsung heroes of Stoopid Buddy Stoodios hard at work to make this special. From the number of models they used for each character, to the different ways they utilized getting shots of specific scenes. If you like watching Behind The Scenes featurettes, I highly recommend this.
  • RCDC’s Aquaman Origin StorySeth Green, Matthew Senreich, and the rest of the RC cast briefly discuss their take on Aquaman’s “origin.”
  • Chicken NuggetsWant more “nuggets” on how the show was created? It’s essentially like one of those DVDs you get with the popup info. The Robot Chicken will pop-up at certain points of the special, you hit the button, and you’re sent over to commentary by Seth, Matt, and Geoff Johns about specific scenes in the special.
Screen Shot 2013-07-06 at 7.38.51 PM
  • Writers’ CommentaryRunning commentary track with writers Geoff Johns, Tom Root, Zeb Wells, Mike Fasolo, Matt Beans, and Kevin Schinick.
  • Actors’ CommetarySame as Writers’ except with commentary by Seth Green, Matt Senreich, Tom Root, Abraham Benrubi, and Alfred Molina.
  • DC Entertainment TourSeth and Matt are guided by Geoff Johns through the inner-workings of DC’s headquarters in L.A. They also raid some serious swag.
  • Stoopid Alter EgosThe Stoopid Buddy crew make their own costumes based on characters from the RC:DC special for the broadcast premier party.
  • OuttakesBloopers from the voice actors.
  • Cut SketchesHear from the creators and writers for the special about sketches that were cut (either for time or because they were too silly,) and see early drafted storyboards. My favorite has to be the Harvey Birdman reference.
  • 5.2 QuestionsDC Comics, featuring Geoff Johns, Seth Green, and Matt Senreich field questions from fans about the RC:DC special.

So there you have it! If you love stop-motion animation, superheroes battling women, villains battling BO, and Aquaman battling everyone. Then you need to grab ahold of this special NOW!

NETFLIX TO ADD CARTOON NETWORK AND [AS] SHOWS TO INSTANT STREAM LIBRARY https://adultswimcentral.com/2013/01/14/netflix-to-add-cartoon-network-and-as-shows-to-instant-stream-library/ https://adultswimcentral.com/2013/01/14/netflix-to-add-cartoon-network-and-as-shows-to-instant-stream-library/#respond Mon, 14 Jan 2013 05:26:00 +0000 https://adultswimcentral.com/?p=2328 If you’re like me and you got a Netflix subscription just to watch the new Arrested Development episodes that are going to come out in May, then I’ve got some good news for you, your account won’t go to waste while you wait! Netflix just signed a deal with Turner Broadcasting Network and will now be adding several Cartoon Network and Adult Swim shows to their instant streaming library. So now you have something else to watch while you wait.

As of now you can expect to see Cartoon Network favorites like Adventure Time, Regular Show, and Johnny Bravo. And [AS] series like The Boondocks, ATHF, Robot Chicken, and Children’s Hospital. Unlike AS On Demand and the AS website, this will allow you to watch whole seasons rather than waiting for certain episodes to show up. You can expect to see the shows on your Netflix account starting on March 30th.
